| I have what's called a ganglion cyst on top of my left hand. Its about the size of a quarter, and I've been trying different methods to get rid of it.
I researched that they're not harmful, but they can only be removed through surgery. Problem is, I lack the funds to have surgery, and if my mother had to pay 800$ for a stye on her eye, I could only imagine how much money it would cost to get rid of this cyst. >_<
For those who don't know what a ganglion cyst is, it is a small sack, filled with a clear liquid, located inbetween the tendons and muscle. It is usually soft to spongy when pressed. Though it doesn't hurt, it can grow bigger and eventually cause discomfort. Usually women ages 20-40, will have an 80% chance of having one in their life time.

| Well, thank you for doing some research as well! I've put my whole hand in a brace up to my arm just to make sure I don't move my wrist, but I've been also soaking that spot in hot water, in hopes of it popping, and so far it looks like it's shrinking. Weither or not it goes away soon, I hope so, cause even typing makes it move and it's just weird and uncomfortable. Heaven knows that if I can't draw here anytime soon, I'mma go crazy LOL, art is my crack. That, and I enjoy drawing for you guys, even if I'm not the best of the best. | |

| Acistian, I have one of those troublesome little boogers on my left wrist. My Mom says they used to call them "Bible Bumps" (more on that in a bit) Mine grows and retreats pretty much at will, flaring up every few months. It is also not as "spongy" as the one you seem to have, almost hard in my case, and can get a little painfull (I think that has to do with location)
Now, back to the "Bible Bump" part of this thing. My Mother says they were called that because of what they used to do to "cure" them. The sufferer would place their hand flat on a table and someone would WHACK the offending "bump" with the Bible. Not sure if you're supposed to use the flat or the spine. When mine gets to be painful from bumping into things with it, I press it up against a door jam or something hard and immovable and kinda grind it. It seems to loosen it up a bit, at least for me. If I read your OP correctly, yours is in a spot I would NOT suggest the Bible method, but ya could try adding steady pressure with/against a flat surface along with the heat you're trying now. You might also try a hot compress instead of soaking it, to better focus the heat right on the cyst.
I do hope that you find some relief soon, as I know these things can be a bit of a pain in the behind.

| Thank you Snidley. =]
Yea, my mother even mentioned that, but I told her it would probably damage my hand, not only because of the spot the cyst is located, but also because I have petiet hands. I've been trying to put direct heat on it, but all we have is one of those rubberish heating bottles (fill it with hot water). I'd prefer some thing like a heating pad because I'd be able to regulate the heat, but we don't own one. As for pressure, I do occasionally push down on it for a few mins until it gets uncomfortable, wait a bit and try again. I'll also try to massage it around with my palm. Otherwise so far, some days it'll look like its shrinking only to have the next day just flair up again.
